Hypnotic - Zella Day

Zella Day has been described as a “happier Lana Del Rey”, and you can see what “they” mean: she’s poppier and more upbeat than LDR, although there is still an underlying quality of sadness to even her most exuberant tunes. She’s got plenty to be happy about – still in her teens, she is one of the most blogged-about artists of the year so far. She’s got a background as a folkie/country girl, growing up in a small ranch town in Arizona with a population of less than 5,000, and if that sounds too fictional to be true, she used to perform Dylan, Presley and Bobby Darin songs in the family-owned Mor Mor Coffee House. Soon, she was writing her own songs – in what will surely become lore, she is said to have come up with an album of self-penned songs by the time she was 13. Even in her latest, studio-polished tracks, you can detect a country-ish twang in her voice, in the same way that, divested of its west-coast sheen, Stevie Nicks’ music would probably reveal a country and western troubadour. -  The Guardian  www.theguardian.com

Better Than You Left Me - Mickey Guyton

Trending music.

Mickey Guyton (born c. 1984) is an American country music singer. She is signed to Capitol Records Nashville, and has released her debut single "Better Than You Left Me".
Guyton was born c. 1984 in Arlington, Texas. She said that she was inspired to begin a singing career after, at the age of eight, she saw LeAnn Rimes sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the start of a Texas Rangers game. In 2011, Guyton signed with Capitol Records Nashville and recorded an extended playUnbreakable three years later. Her debut album will be co-produced by Dann Huff and Nathan Chapman.
Guyton wrote her debut single, "Better Than You Left Me", with Jennifer Hanson and Jenn Schott. She debuted the single at the Grand Ole Opry on January 10, 2015, and released both it and the music video two days later.[3][4] Guyton said that the single was inspired by a breakup with a former boyfriend who "came running back to" her after she got the opportunity to sing for the President of the United States.[5] The song broke the record for most first-week adds by a debut artist's first single in Country Aircheck history.
Taste of Country named the song a "Critic's Pick" from editor Billy Dukes, who called Guyton a "pure country vocalist who relies on talent and strong songwriting before anything else". USA Today's Brian Mansfield also reviewed the single favorably, saying that it "has a soaring melody that reflects its strength of spirit."
The song debuted at number 56 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart dated for the week ending January 24, 2015. An article in The Guardian made note of the song's early success on the charts, particularly due to Guyton being an African American female in a genre dominated by white men. - Wikipedia

Hooray for Earth - Racy

A band doesn’t have to be legendary, or even great, to be definitive. Case in point: Hooray For Earth. If you consider “alt synth-rock” to be a thingand you shouldany given release from the Brooklyn band could be considered state of the art. In the three-year stretch between their first EP and 2011’s True Loves, their aesthetic evolved from a less polychromatic rendering ofMGMT’s Mario Paint symphonies to a parallel of the percussive, vaguely mystic electro-pop streamlining of Animal Collective and Yeasayer. Three years later, Racyreflects where we’re currently at; this type of band no longer has any pretense of being “indie rock” in anything but a nominal sense. Racy is big, it’s bold, and positions its creators closer to "pop", only to reveal them as a pop band by context rather than nature. - excerpt from a review on http://pitchfork.com/
